Rotary Club of Morganton supports Glen Alpine Food Pantry
On Saturday, March 29, members of the Rotary Club of Morganton met at the Glen Alpine Food Pantry housed within Glen Alpine Methodist Church to help with interior painting. Club members also participated in distribution of the food and groceries on Tuesday, April 1. The Food Pantry gives out the donations through a car line Tuesdays, 6-8 PM, and Fridays, Noon – 2 PM, at Glen Alpine Methodist Church at 410 Linville St. Although the Food Pantry is physically located in Glen Alpine Methodist Church, the Food Pantry is actually a partnership of seven local churches and is a partner agency of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
The Rotary Club of Morganton has selected the Glen Alpine Food Pantry as a recipient of a 2024-2025 Rotary District Grant to support the Food Pantry’s ongoing efforts to provide supplemental food and groceries to underprivileged families of Burke County. The Club donated $4560 to the Food Pantry to help with building repairs and refurbishment as part of the Rotary District Grant Program. As part of the Rotary District Grant, the awarding Rotary Club must also participate in supporting the recipient through volunteer hours and service to the awarded organization.
Rotary Club of Morganton President Kim Van Sickler, one of the volunteers, commented on the experience “It was an eye-opening look into what goes into feeding those in need and just how many people need a helping hand. We will be back!”
The Glen Alpine Food Pantry, like many charitable organizations, is highly dependent upon volunteers to support their mission. Any individuals or organizations who would like to volunteer can contact the Pantry at 828-391-9095 or by email at glenalpinefoodpantryinc@gmail.com.
