The Club Visits New Elementary School in Burke County
The Rotary Club of Morganton took yesterday’s meeting off-site to visit the new Mountain View Elementary School, which opened its doors on August 27th.
The new $20 million gem is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology, safety measures, and classroom furniture that Burke County’s public school system can provide.
The entire process took close to 30 months to complete from the first time BCPS held public meetings to address the issue of overcrowding at Hillcrest Elementary School in March 2016.
"Rotary's core purpose is youth and education, so it was gratifying to tour the new Mountain View Elementary School and tour the state-of-the-art education facility plus hear about the innovative bilingual curriculum being offered,” said George Milner, President of the Rotary Club of Morganton.
The new school is only two miles from Walter Johnson Middle School and along the route to Freedom High School, creating a tight cluster from which parents who work in Morganton will benefit.
Attending the meeting were Burke County Public Schools system board chair Randy Burns, Superintendent Dr Larry Putman (Rotarian) and Doug Setzer Director of Auxiliary Services and Project Manager (Rotarian).
Special thanks to Putnam and Setzer for arranging The Club’s visit to Mountain View Elementary!
